Trip with the Saab 340 (1 of 3)

This week I was on a business trip to Ostrava, Czech Republic. A nice little plane with propeller engines took me from Vienna to Ostrava. It became a subject for my photo blog. While every one was boarding, I escaped from the group and walked around the plane to shoot a bunch of images.

TECH-INFO: On the first flight it was already too late (after sunset) so with my 35mm prime lens I couldn't take so many great images but on the flight back I used my 10-24mm ultra wide angle. This is one RAW file which I converted into a HDR one (using DxO Optics to develop 4 exposures and merged them in Photomatix Pro). After tone-mapping to a 16bit TIFF file I made some general improvements in Photoshop (color and contrast). Mainly: the clouds got a much higher contrast to make them more prominent, the plane is bit brighter (it's the main subject after all) and blues are darkened (so they are less distracting). Finally some vignetting is added to give more focus on the center of the image.

Good shot Paul but why has the door on the right got a stream of "marching ants" round it smile
LightningPaul: I was a bit surprised but they are no ants smile Here the image is too small but on the original size it is a striped white and black line to warn people, similar as the yellow/black lines used at traffic lights.
Good treatment, Paul, although I'd have liked to see the sky darkened a little to help the nose of the plane stand out against it. Never flown on a Saab, although I drove them for more than 30 years! smile
LightningPaul: Many thanks Tom. Very good point about the sky. Though I didn't want to alter to much anymore because I already boosted the contrast which added some noise already. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for similar situations.
great angle... like a fish eye lens was used
LightningPaul: Thanks Chantal, I only used an ultra wide angle lens but a fish eye would probably yield something similar here.
