The nice Hotel

A hotel in the neighborhood of Ieper in the West part of Belgium. Lots of English people visit this part of the country to see the cemeteries of soldiers died during the First World War. I'm not entirely sure but I think this hotel is managed by a Belgian woman and an English man.

When the sun was just asleep, I took this image at the parking. Some friendly guests of hotel came outside to have a chat with me. They where wondering what I was doing over there.

TECH-INFO: a tripod (of course), cable release and bubble level to shoot 7 shots (each a stop difference). I constructed a HDR image and tone mapped it in Photomatrix. In Photoshop I enhanced contrast and colors. Especially the white walls of the hotels where a bit dark after tone mapping, so I had to restore that. At the end I added a small amount of vignetting.

During capturing I made the mistake of choosing a wrong aperture. f/8 or f/11 would have been much better because the left part of the building is not in focus. Please let me know what you think of this image.

It is very unusual for image not to be pin sharp Paul but l dont think the image suffers for it in this small format
LightningPaul: Thanks Zed.

I think this image is fine Paul - taking the picture as you have has added depth to it
LightningPaul: I didn't look it that way but you are right. Some news photographers in Belgium use shallow DOF to add depth.
Very beautiful shot. This is an example of great use of HDR. Excellent work Paul.
LightningPaul: Thanks Giorgio. I think I'm on the right track of using HDR techniques.

Paul did mistake... its possible? Choking! I think HDR is difficult to obtain perfect result in this typical scenery. The inside light always too bright for outside. But you control sometimes I miss... Bonne semaine.
LightningPaul: I'm not sure what you mean exactly. But I'm open for any kind of constructive critics. Could you explain a bit more? Thanks in advance.
I see what you mean about the focus but it isn't the end of the world. I love the lighting from inside the building
LightningPaul: Thanks Bill. It's indeed not the end of the world, but in the step of the learning (and also forgetting) process.
cracking image Paul but yes your quite right about your choice of f/stopsmile
LightningPaul: Thanks. I'll be paying attention to that smile
Looks uber-cool!
LightningPaul: Many many many thanks smile
