The Little Red Damaged Car

Another image made for the contest on Macroday with the theme Damage. Last time I participated, that was more than two weeks ago for the Coffee theme, I got the most votes, together with someone else. So many thanks for everyone who voted for me. If you like this picture then please vote the next coming week again for me. I really like this weeks theme. After a bit of seeking I saw one of the little cars of my children. They are so fond of them, especially this little red metal one. It's very strong because besides driving the little vehicle they tend to drop or even throw this piece of metal on the ground. The car is still alright but suffers of some severe damage which forms now an ideal model.

TECH-INFO: this time no special HDR stuff, only strobist techniques. I placed a little softbox (Lumiquest Softbox III) above the car, powered with a speedlight flash. The car itself is standing on blue sheet of cardboard with plexi glass on top of it. At the left and right of the car I used white sheets of paper to provide fill light. The used lens is a 35mm macro lens. The focus distance (= between camara and sensor) was less than 15 cm. I took a couple of shots using different focus points. Choosing the right focus point was the most difficult. You really have to set it manually. Despites the aperture is very small (f/16) you still might be surprised of very small DOF. At least I was a bit.

For post processing I used DxO Optics Pro for its lighting module and to crop it in 4/3 format. Afterwards I did some final adjustments in Photoshop. Mainly contrast, brightening the spot of interest and adding vignetting.

nice decay... would have liked a bit more contrast for the grit but love the dof - even at f16 wow!

Yep, f16 with this small focus zone? You found the lens inside an Area-51 garbage bin... Nice idea and natural look; you perfectly on the control of strobist technique. Bravo.
LightningPaul: Well, actually I found it in the Area-51 internet store ;-) LOL
