photoblog image Four Kids on the Beach

Four Kids on the Beach

This is another shot made at the Belgian Strobist Meeting in Zeebrugge almost a week ago. It's not quite easy to let four children pose for an image. Especially they all get distracted very easily or start running to somewhere else. I tried a few times and this is one of the cute ones.

TECH-INFO: for lighting I used a silver reflective umbrella powered by one speedlight at the left of the camera. This light source is pointed to the small child at right. The ambient light coming from the clouds acted as fill in. I really like the light from the umbrella, it's pretty soft but still edgy enough to add that something extra.

For post processing I first used DxO Optics Pro for lens corrections. In Photoshop I cropped it into 2/1 format, used my new contrast preset (described here), darkened the background very slightly using a masked curves tool adjustment layer in multiply blending mode and finally added some rectangular vignetting.
