photoblog image Pillars of the Palace

Pillars of the Palace

An evening shot of a part of the Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw, Poland. I posted another shot of this building a while ago.

TECH-INFO: 7 JPG shots with each a stop difference, using a tripod. I used all shots except one because someone came out of the door at the moment. I'm fairly happy except I should have used a smaller aperture (eg f/8.0 or even f/11.0) to have sharper pillars. On the other hand it would have yielded longer exposure times which would have made the recording process more difficult because people were passing from time to time.

During post processing, like most of my HDR tone mapped images, I used DxO Optics Pro for lens corrections, Photoshop to convert them into a HDR file, Photomatrix Pro for tone mapping and Photoshop again for post-post-processing.
When I created the HDR file I straightened the lines. This is only possible with the (much more expensive) Extended version of Photoshop :-(   Mostly I did that after tone mapping but it's better to do that before.

EXTRA: here is a link to the image with the middle exposure which came straight from the camera. So before doing any lens corrections or straightening lines. For those who are interested, here is the version after tone-mapping and before final enhancements. These images will be removed in the near future. It gives you a change to see what is modified. Perhaps I should do this more often, what do you think?

Fantastic Paul, it was great to got through the stages with the other images, it gives a much greater appreciation of what you have created
LightningPaul: I'm happy you've got a bigger insight into the various steps. Thanks for commenting.
awesome photo, I love it
LightningPaul: Thank you Chantal, I'm very happy you love it.
I'm particularly liking your processing. I also like the images you posted to show the various stages of the image in development. Thanks for sharing.
LightningPaul: I'm very glad you mention that. I'll try to do that more in the future. Thanks.
Very nice detail and contrast. Yes, those extra images are great to have a look on and see how the masterpiece is created.
LightningPaul: Many thanks Rod.

I remain no voice in front of the result. I saw that I need more practice to quit HDR amateur zone!!! If I started to use DXO and Lightroom, I also started to use wakeup pills and Red Bull... Bravo.
LightningPaul: Hmmm, don't forget to sleep from time to time. I have most of my ideas after a break or a good night sleep smile
This looks amazing but not real.Reminds me of the advanced computer graphics from the games in nowadays.
LightningPaul: It's indeed balancing between real and surreal. I also enhanced the details a lot, which creates this over-real look. Thanks for your comment.

Oh my! This is so powerful. And so beautiful. I love the angle, the light is amazing, as always!
LightningPaul: Many many many thanks for your comment smile
Lovely shot. You are amazingly talented!
LightningPaul: Many thanks! I hope to surprise you even more in the future.
I'm going to have to get Photomatix now!!
LightningPaul: I wish you lots of fun with Photomatrix smile Don't be overwhelmed by all the controls. Lock the doors and experiment with them for one full week, after that you'll know how to get what you want with Photomatrix.
