Today something more abstract. You really might wonder what it is. Frankly, I would probably do the same. Any ideas? It's a metal lamp holder in a hotel room. The middle is attached to the ceiling, the three circles at the end of the arms hold lamps. You don't see them because I was shooting from below, pointing my camera to the roof.
TECH-INFO: this thing was hanging above the bed. So you just lay down and shoot upwards It's a very relaxing style of photographing. I focused on the circle at the right. A huge window was acting as a giant softbox, powered with indirect sun light. It was very cloudy, even rainy. The light was coming from the left. You can see it pretty well. I took a couple of RAW shots to select the best one.
During post processing I used mainly ACR. White balance is set to get a perfectly white background. The exposure was pushed another stop until the ceiling became very white (but not over exposed). The clarity slider was also set to almost 100. Finally in Photoshop I cropped it and added some more contrast and saturation.
I could have made it in B/W but I loved the rusty metal color too much. I really enjoy seeing many B/W images on various great blogs but I think I'll be posting mostly in color. It has also lots of power.
Mostly I make HDR tone mapped images for my photo blog but here I tried something else. I wanted to leave my comfort zone a bit and I didn't have so much time yesterday too.
