photoblog image The new Garage Floor

The new Garage Floor

While shooting in Zyrardow, Poland for my Abandoned Series, I also took a few images of something that is getting renewed. It's the garage floor of one of the big red brick factories where they used to produce high quality linen. They are changing, renovating and fixing everything to sell it them as lofts. I forced my lens between the metal bars to get an inside view. Luckily nobody was working or passing over there at that moment.

TECH-INFO: Like most of my Abandoned Series images, I used a tripod, bubble level and a cable release. Because of the huge contrast range, I shot 9 JPGs. For post processing I used DxO Optics Pro for lens corrections, Photomatrix for merging them into HDR and eventually tone-mapping. Finally in Photoshop I enhanced several parts using layers.
The tone mapping really enhanced the structures of the concrete. Despites it's slightly getting sureal I really like them.

Just love the surreal feel to this image, nice work Paul
LightningPaul: I mostly try to avoid it but this one has indeed some surreal feeling, though I think it looks nice and appropriate.
this is surreal, like straight from a videogame
LightningPaul: Thanks for mentioning this. I didn't make the connection with videogame, though I have to agree with you.

Impressive hdr...
LightningPaul: Thanks Simone!
Kind of surreal atmosphere. Nice.
LightningPaul: I agree. I didn't intent that but it turned out like that. Thanks for your comment.
I surely like it too Paul. Looks to me like a place from a pc game smile.
LightningPaul: Thanks for mentioning it. I didn't play computer games for the last 13 years, so it didn't come into my mind.
This really looks like a scene from a computer game and I am half expecting a bad guy to leap from behind a pillar will guns blazing!
LightningPaul: I never thought of a computer game but I have to agree with that. It has been over 13 years since I really played computer games. They were not looking so "real" at that time smile

LightningPaul: Indeed, something else. I didn't intent too but it turned out like that. Thanks for your comment.
the end effect you have achieved here looks like a scene from Doom games
LightningPaul: Thanks Ted. I had no idea I would end up with a computer game scene. I even didn't intend too, though I'm very happy to hear that.
Stunning composition Paul, your post processing is superb as usual. Love the surreal effect.
LightningPaul: Many many thanks John for your comment.
this is one of the very few pictures where hdr works really great! I love it! Surreal and moody... brillant work!
LightningPaul: Thank you smile
I post many HDR tone mapped images. Perhaps you'll like them too. But here the surreal look is something else and IMO not overdone.
Nicely composed HDR shot, The perspective is excellent here.
LightningPaul: Thanks Miro! I didn't had much choice for the perspective but probably it was not possible to even have something much better.
You have made concrete look appealingsmile
LightningPaul: LOL smile Thanks Nigel
it's like a cool scene from Doom!!!

love it

Cheers
Rob
LightningPaul: Thanks Rob! If my job of developing "conventional" software doesn't succeed anymore then I can always switch to computer games ;-)
