This is taken at the borders of the Bronkhorst. It's the smallest city in Holland. It's very cosy and well structured. Before you enter the city you can park your car on a specially provided parking place. From that point on you can very easily visit the place on foot. It has a couple of nice restaurants and and many little traditional shops. There is even a playground for children. On the picture above you see the land which is surrounding this tiny little city.
TECH-INFO: due to the high contrast of light (some parts where in the shadows) I took 5 JPGs, hand held, with each a stop difference. First I corrected lens flaws in DxO Optics Pro, then I aligned and merged them into a 32-bit HDR file in Photoshop. I tone mapped it a to a 16-bit TIFF file in Photomatrix. The reasons for this whole process is to get a sharper image and to balance the light in the image because of the too high contrast. The latter is normally done by your brains when you look at the scene.
In Photoshop I enhanced the contrast globally as well locally on different spots. Besides that I mixed two self taken textures using the soft light blending mode together with two rectangular vignettes. The first texture is an image of some dust on my television screen. I borrowed this idea of the Really Japan photo blog. The second texture is a shot of blue stone. It has this this nice and typical scratches. On the first vignette I painted a bit using brush and I blended it with the TV dust texture and the original image. The second texture is placed on top. At the end I added the second vignette which darkens the borders of the whole image.
Let me know if you love it or hate it :-)

l have to sit on the fence for this one, don't love or hate it, texture is interesting but i don't know what it adds. Might have worked better for me if it was a B/W
LightningPaul: I wanted to try something else. The original picture was nice but the textures give some old pseudo nostalgic feeling. It's an experiment of which I like the result a lot. Many thanks for your comment.
Different than your previous photos. I like the texture you used. Adds a special atmosphere.
LightningPaul: Thanks! I wanted to do something different, though it also involves HDR techniques like in many of my other images. Expect more texture mixes in the future.
For me I think perhaps a texture too far. It is a little flat. Perhaps ditch the texture and convert to mono?
LightningPaul: Thanks for your opinion. I see it's a matter of taste. I (partially) removed the textures and converted it to mono (and posted it on the 27th of May). Feel free to have a look.
Great image Paul.I heard about this city. You actually asked once which cities I've been in Holland. I can tell you few Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Leiden, Gouda and Dordrecht where I go mostly and I'll move there soon.
LightningPaul: Thanks for your comment. Sounds you still can visit lots of other great cities in Holland I wish you all the best when moving over there.
I like the old picture feel to this. I think if it was my shot, I would back off/tone down the TV dust texture. It looks great to start, then seems just a little to much for me.
LightningPaul: Thanks NatJag. The TV dust texture is indeed a bit special. I like the dust part a lot but has probably too many vertical bars. Perhaps I should use my computer screen to make dust images, though I clean it a bit too much. Maybe my colleague can help me if I photograph his screen
