Abandoned - Hole in Power Plant

A while ago I promised on my photo blog, when replying comments, to post some more pictures of abandoned buildings. Now I can make it up with another one shot in Zyrardow, a city in Poland once world wide known for its linen.

This is a part of an old power plant for producing electricity and steam. You only see a rather small part of the building. Originally I wanted to go on the territory of this plant but the security guy didn't want me to enter at all. The man was nice but he was very afraid that he would lose his job. It's understandable especially if you know that hundreds of other people are waiting to take his job. So I shot this image hundred meters away, close to this abandoned factory which is a similar type of image.

The picture has a surreal look but I like it a lot. While it is shot during the middle of the day it has some strange dark, mechanical or even futuristic mood. Let me know what you feel when seeing this image.

TECH-INFO: like many of my images I took several shots (seven), using a tripod, to merge them into a 32-bit HDR file. Tone mapped it in Photomatrix and used Photoshop to play with several masked adjustment layers. Mostly the curves tool and selective color tool. By painting on the layers I enhanced several parts of the image. I also straightened the walls by using the perspective and skew correction tools. I cropped one third away of the original image. Now it looks properly framed. Finally some vignetting is added.

i saw the thumbnail and was instantly intrigued. and it's funny, i thought of eastern europe/balkans before i read your caption. only because of spending time in the latter, and seeing similar (for different reasons). this picture has an incredibly haunting mood about it, as well as being quite beautiful too.
LightningPaul: Many thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it. Every time I go to Central and Eastern Europe I'm also very fascinated by the buildings and architecture.
Fabulous Paul . and good story line. richard
LightningPaul: Thanks Richard. I'm very glad you like the story behind those images.
