photoblog image The very very small Flower

The very very small Flower

When you buy a bouquet of flowers you have mostly lots of different kind of flowers. Some of them are the main flowers, like roses or tulips, which draw all the attention. Others parts are leaves or little flowers which give the bouquet volume. One of them is very white, has only around half a centimeter diameter and looks like a little knob with micro holes. I don't know its name unfortunately.
A few weeks ago I decided to use such of flower to test my macro lens. I came extremely close with my lens, so this flower was partly inside my lens cap. What was looking like a textured knob is in fact a collection of hundred or even thousands of little micro flowers. Amazing!

UPDATE: In the flower shop they told me that it is called: matricaria, I hope this helps.

TECH-INFO: I used indirect day light which is shining on the right top side of the flower. At the left side I used some paper to bounce back the light. My camera was on a tripod. Focusing was done manually. In Photoshop I enhanced the contrast, clarity and yellow color. So no big changes.

nice macro. it's a very original flower, I like how you made the focus on the top. the result is surprising!
LightningPaul: Thank you smile
I used the minimum focus distance: 14 cm, which is the distance between the flower the camera sensor.
This is great, I'm looking forward to doing some flowers soonish
LightningPaul: Thanks Nigel. I'm looking forward to see your results smile

Great light...I like the detail.
LightningPaul: Thanks Simone.
It's a little chrysanthymum. Good light.
LightningPaul: I'll ask it in the flower shop to conform. I'm wondering if you are right smile
Very little flower (f/16): I like how you used DOF and light. Great macro.
LightningPaul: Indeed, when looking at it with your eyes you even don't see those details. Thanks for visiting.

It's like another world, Paul! Who would have known it existed like that!
LightningPaul: I was certainly surprised. I guess I'll discover many many more things with my macro lens smile

Like looking on some kind of small sun, or maybe a weird planet smile
Great result, I don't believe I ever saw a flower like this one.
LightningPaul: I also didn't see anything like that. Without the macro lens it's still something totally different.
Beautiful ! A great macro !
LightningPaul: Thanks!
Flowers (and macro photography) can be fascinating. I love how you get to see the little details hidden otherwise. Looks beautiful!
LightningPaul: Thank you Marta smile

Wow, nice macro and gorgeous details viewable. The background is surprising and gives smooth atmosphere to the flower. Great and bravo.
LightningPaul: Many thanks! The background are the leaves of the flowers which got much less light and are totally out of focus.
