Last Sunday was a big Carnaval parade in Heist, Belgium. There were many participants all dressed in all kind of things. They all built some nice kind of decorated car. There are a few pictures to show but instead of posting every time one I bundled here two of them together. It's the first time I do that but I like it. Sometimes two images at once can be more powerful then having them separate.
It was pretty to hard to get some decent pictures. These people were constantly walking, jumping, running, partying, doing stupid and throwing confetti in my face. It feels it was harder than taking pictures of children or sports events. For the picture above of the bus with girls I was walking at the same speed to get the shot. Luckily the man with the funny glasses was posing for a second.
TECH-INFO: First I did lens corrections and local contrast improvement in DxO. In Photoshop I used an adjustment curves layer using the overlay blending mode to improve contrast and saturation. Then I added both a vignette. Finally I cropped each of them a bit and put them in one image.
Both pictures have identical exposure info except the one at the left has a shutterspeed of 1/80s.

Two or more images together can tell the story. Carnivals are all about colour and there is plenty of it here Paul
LightningPaul: I agree about the color and carnaval. For normal shots (so not for the special ones which I mostly make for this blog) I hardly ever increase saturation (sometimes a little bit the vibrancy), but for carnaval pictures I always make an exception. After all, those people tried so hard to look very colorful and flashy.
Wow, wow, wow, wow and wow again (no copy paste here! Each wow is handmade!)
What a great combination of photos!
I really enjoyed it - thanks for making me laugh
LightningPaul: I'm very happy to read that you had a good laugh
I appreciate every hand written "wow" a lot.
Wow brilliant color. It's the first time I read something about Belgium festival. The vignetting adds something to the scenery.
LightningPaul: Many people love to celebrate carnaval (just like in Brazil). A group works a whole year on a theme. They make a big vehicle, like this bus, dresses & clothing for all the participants. During the parade all those participating groups compete each other to get the first price. The safari team, posted on the 3rd of March on my blog, won the second price.
After the parade they celebrate for 3 days long, day and night. So a whole year working for a few days of crazy fun.
Normally I don't like such strong colors so much for people but for carnaval they fit very well.
