Corridor Doors to new Worlds

Door to a new world. Or perhaps doors to new ways in our lives.

My photo blog exists now six months. I have really learned a lot during this period and many new doors have opened for me. Thank you all for all the nice commenst and feedback which helped me improving my work a lot. It is great fun to experiment a lot with new techniques during capturing pictures or when post processing them. Half year ago I didn't do almost any processing except some cropping and contrast changes, mainly in DxO Optics Pro. Now I became an enthousiastic Photomatrix Pro and Photoshop user.

At the start of my blog I have stated to post every day an image but unfortunately I have to change this statement. My family and I would like to take a new direction which will take a lot of our free time. After a long time thinking I decided to post less images but keep working on high quality posts. Especially the images of the last couple of weeks take significant amount of time to create them. So I choose quality above quantity. I'll really try to post at least every two days and for short series even daily .

Finally is there anything you would like to see changed or improvement to my photo blog? Are there things you love or dislike?

TECH-INFO: one RAW using tripod. Processed it in DxO to do some perspective and lens corrections. Finally did several enhancements in Photoshop. Using curves, in overlay mode, and the selective color tool I made the doors, lamps and painting look stronger. To do that I selected the objects using the marquee or one of the lasso tools and feather them with a radius of two to five pixels. Then I promote them to an adjustment layer. Each selected part forms a mask of the layer. Finally I added a big rectangular shaped vignette to create even more depth and a certain dark tunnel mood.

I like this! The doors to the other side! The only thing I find a wee bit distracting is the red panel on the wal on the top left. It pulls the eye away from the lines leading to the floor a bit. But great conceptual shot. I think it's helpful for many that you state how you are processing. Would be nice if more people shared info on how they take the photos, and what is done to them in post so kudos for taking the time to help others.
LightningPaul: I'm delighted with your comment. I'm glad you say you like the tech-info section. In general I'm trying to write what I would like to read on other photo blogs. On my screen is the red panel rather dark but I agree it can be distracting. During post-processing I was having doubts to leave it or not.

First of all, great shot. It's bright and optimistic, even though it appears to be an infirmary of some kind.

Secondly, I don't blame you for going to an every-other-day format. I've often thought of doing the same thing myself.

Thirdly, I'd like to see you move off shutterchance, and get your own URL and hosting. Nothing against shutterchance but all the blogs look the same. And sometimes shutterchance gets slow, but that just happens to all hosts now and then.

Fourthly, I've seen you come a long way. Congratulations.
LightningPaul: Many thanks for your extended answer, I appreciate it a lot.

It's not an infirmary you see on the image, but the corridor of my apartment :-D Anyway, nice try smile
About shutterchance (SC), I really like the concept a lot and it's also easy for me. I just need to upload the image and write the text. I was planning to start my own hosting but I think it would be too much work for me to maintain the host and the website. Also SC is pretty cheap, renting a host is even more expensive (as far as I found). Perhaps one day I'll move. The slowness can indeed be very annoying though I have the feeling it is better the last last (but not all the time).

Great exposure setting...I like this minimalistic shot!
LightningPaul: It's indeed minimalistic, thanks for mentioning it.
I have enjoyed you pictures very much and your processing is of a very high standard. Just keep doing what pleases you and share it with us. I shall keep an eye out for your posts. Best wishes for you and your family with your plans
LightningPaul: Thank you very much for your comment Bill, I appreciate it. I'll just continue what I like to shoot and to show.

I don't think you should feel sorry for that. I'm all up for "quality above quantity" - I post once a week (sometime even a bit longer than that). I believe it was Cartier-Bresson who said that he is happy to make 1 good photo a year, and I'm sure I'm not even close to that, so filtering my own photos is probably to best.

About your photo - The cleanliness of it is almost scary. Like a scene from a mad house or something.. smile
LightningPaul: "a scene from a mad house" ?
I live in that house :-D
Best thing is to do what you like doing best Paul .... We'll tell you when it's bloody rubbish. ;-) richard
LightningPaul: Thanks Richard, I appreciate it, so please tell me when it's bloody rubbish :-D
Matrix ?
Almost surrealist ! Bravo !
LightningPaul: Great interpretation you have smile
I like minimal, and I like the feeling of going towards the light.
I think you are right about quality over quantity, even though I dont always follow it myself! Your blog is informative, and as others have said do what you want, it's your camerawink
LightningPaul: Many thanks Nigel, I'm happy with your comment.

I lost the voice in front of the result! Really impressive scenery. It's surprising how a single shot gave many time of manipulation. Sure, you are Photoshop master. Bravo. You know what I think about your photoblog and I understand how the family takes a larger part of free time.
LightningPaul: Many many thanks with your comment. About Photoshop, I only started two months ago, though I have to admit I read a bunch of manuals and tip on the internet. Before I had some Photoshop Elements experience.
