Two toddles riding and stopping shortly for a picture (or something else). Little children can have very adorable expressions on there face. I really adore those ones.
TECH-INFO: because of the very dull weather and gray buildings and roads, I switched my camera to black and white mode, so I could concentrate on the toning. Not much is changed to this image, except a slight contrast enhancement (in DxO), some vignetting added and I made the face of the front toddler slightly brighter (using burning and dodging techniques in Photoshop). I'm a bit surprised with the high ISO, it still looks very clean to me.

Never, ever shoot in BW mode. You always want your color information...as much information in your RAW as possible. The reason there's no noise, I guess, is because there's no blue channel. Anyway, you have to learn to see in black and white, then convert.
The reason is when you have a color file, you can do exceptional things when converting to black and white.
This image isn't bad at all...I'm not trying to say it is. The kids are cute. I think it loses some snap from being shot in greyscale, though. In this case the final result -- what counts -- is fine. I'm just sayin' it's probably better to shoot in color no matter what conditions are like. For future subjects you'd have a lot more flexibility. For some things you probably don't need that, though.
Anyway, again...nice photo. The kid really is adorable. No better word for it.
LightningPaul: This picture was shot a bit more than a year ago. At that time I was already happy with the B/W mode in my camera. Since a few weeks ago I started experimenting with more advanced B/W conversions using the channel mixer, the B/W converter tool and other methods. And I fully agree, you can get much better results.
I have to say that my camera does a pretty good B/W conversion which I really adore. So I should just find how to emulate it in Photoshop.
Looking in B/W is not easy at all. I still need to gain much experience. Especially a lot depends on the conversion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm also suprise by the low level of noise at 800 ISO. D200 is good for putting noise at these ISO levels (I have the same)
My predecessor is right. You get a lot more information by shooting in color and convert later.
Great shot!
LightningPaul: Many thanks for your comment. I still need to learn a lot about B/W conversions.
I think that the D200 does very well up to ISO400 and is ok till ISO640. From ISO800 it is too noisy for color images (B/W apparently not so much).
A perfectly adorable picture Paul. The BW processing is excellent and a very lovely capture.
LightningPaul: Thank you John. The credits for the BW processing are for my camera But I love the way he does it. I hope I can emulate it on PC one day.
