The RER train/metro in Paris. Shot very late in the evening. It was as good as empty. In the middle of the image you have little island to hold with your hands while standing. I've put my camera on it, instead of using tripod.
UPDATE: I submitted this one for the VFXY theme 2008 Best Recap. I think it is one of the best images I made this year.
NOTE: due to a technical problem of the Shutterchance server which lasted for more than 4 days, I was not able to upload images everyday. Sorry about that but this was completely beyond my control.
TECH-INFO: My camera was resting on such island so it moved along with the train hence it was immune for train shaking. I shot 5 JPGs with a one stop exposure difference. A fish eye lens provided a very extreme angle. I merged the exposures into a HDR file and tone-mapped it with Photomatrix. Like most of the time, this steps were needed to cover the rather big dynamic range and to enhance all the details.
Afterwards I processed it further in Photoshop. The walls of the train had a pretty ugly yellow/orange color. I turned down the saturation but I fully opened the vibrance. This makes the primary colors like red and blue very strong while the others get muted. I really like the effect. I has some cross processing feel. Using curves I boosted the contrast and I added big round vignette to finish it.
I have the feeling it is a pretty artistic and hyper realistic looking image but it reflects the mood I felt while sitting on the empty train.
