This is the part of the port where big container ships get unloaded. Almost every time when I pass, I see ships and cranes working. I really want to photograph them. When I had some time I went over there but unfortunately it was empty. Sooner or later I'll capture one of those ships for sure.
TECH-INFO: using a tripod I shot 7 JPGs with one stop difference. All of them where processed in DxO for lens corrections like distortion, chromatic aberration and softness. Then I tried to make a HDR image and tone map it but it turned out to be too noisy. Instead I used the blending exposure function of Photomatrix. Which is an excellent way for combining images with lots of dark areas. It prevents noise. Finally I tweaked the brightness, curves and contrast, and cropped it a bit.

Very good night shot. The lack of activity in the harbor is actually pretty fitting, given the current economic situation.
Well-photographed and processed.
LightningPaul: Thanks for mentioning about the connection between the empty port and economic situation. I didn't think about that. Perhaps it is true in this image too.
Great one again. Thanks for the HDR infos, might need it some day. Always too lazy to shoot more than one exposure
LightningPaul: It takes some time and preparation to carry and setup everything with a tripod. I use it normally when it is darker (read: longer shutter time needed). During the day I often dare to shoot hand held and use the align function to merge everything into a HDR file.
I like it empty, with those cranes waiting. There is a great stillness to this picture.
LightningPaul: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate that. You mostly express what I should or would normally think. I don't always take the necessary amount of time to do that.
Very nicely composed industrial photo. And great HDR of course.
LightningPaul: Thank you Miro. Technically it is HDR, though I did not make any HDR image, just combined all light info from 7 pictures covering a huge range.
Well-photographed and processed.
