Shot in Rotterdam not so far from the center. In my opinion it is a great city if you like modern architecture a lot.
TECH-INFO: during the summer I was still a JPG only shooter. While capturing it I knew the picture had a great potential. Very shortly afterwards I purchased Photomatrix Pro. In able to start making HDR images I developed two images with a two stop difference from that JPG using DxO Optics Pro (I could say I was a bit too lazy to shot multiple exposures), converted them in a HDR file and tone mapped it. It was one of my very first attempts. In order to learn the program I experimented really a lot with all the parameters, just to get an understanding of what they do. I have the feeling that my current tone mapped images are looking more natural. The image suffers a bit from halos and it is certainly not perfect at all. I'm pretty surprised that there is so little noise present. I love the result.

I don't really see much of a halo problem. It'll go away if you turn light smoothing up. I like to leave it at 0 if I can because I think it makes the photo look more organic. If things get a little too whacky I'll clean in up in photoshop, but only if I plan on printing the photo or making it part of my on-line portfolio. For my blog I don't care so much. I used HDR in the shot I put up tonight...it has more imperfections than yours but I like the effect.
This is a good shot. I really don't see much wrong with it. The reds are clipping a bit, I guess.
LightningPaul: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. When I made this image I didn't notice the halos. Now I feel I understand the parameters pretty well in Photomatrix. So it becomes much easier to get the desired effect.
Very impressive image, Pau. My guess is that you are going to really enjoy this HDR thingy, and so will we! (:o)
LightningPaul: Thank you. I do enjoy it a lot. HDR tone mapped images can become more alive and improve lighting a lot. Many of my images are like that but mostly I try to let them look (pretty) natural.
wonderful colors and perspective. Love the result as well, especially the beautiful red color.
LightningPaul: Many thanks Alex. While tone-mapping the red color became (by accident) very red, but I like it too. It gives the feeling that this part of the building is already used (for offices for instance).
Awesome perspective, love the red tones in the left building and the repeating patterns are so captivating in the other one. Great framing.
LightningPaul: Many thanks John. To me it looks like the lower part of the building is already in use. By coincidence I pushed the red during tone-mapping.
Brilliant composition, capture and HDR PP. I would have expected the halo effect around the building and crane structure, but it's really not that evident. Love the colour tones and the cloud formation, really Noice one.
Nice composition and good trick with HDR from one JPG ;p)
None miracle, HDR averaging more images removes noise, but introduces some less sharpness...
LightningPaul: Thanks Miro. I use DxO to remove noise while processing. Not the best program but I learned it pretty well so I can express many of my needs with this one.
welcome to the world of HDR Paul, image looks good with fine colours as well, I find that post processing in Photoshop enables me to get rid of the halo effect and fine tune the image.
LightningPaul: Many thanks for welcoming me
I'm still learning a lot about HDR imaging and tone mapping. As far as I know the halo effect is partly due to the settings and partly due to algorithms used in the program. I can only hope that the software engineers work on the latter.
nice one with this mix of red and blue. we feel so small in front of these buildings
LightningPaul: I totally agree. The colors work very well in this one. I didn't notice it so much but you are right, we look very small. I think I took a very good focal length (24mm, but 35mm in 35mm format) which is ideal for journalism and close to the view of our eyes.
This is a good shot. I really don't see much wrong with it. The reds are clipping a bit, I guess.
