photoblog image Electronic Components

Electronic Components

This is image is for the VFXY theme Technology. It is a close up of a self made audio pre amplifier which is used to drive a 50W amplifier. On the print board there are many transistors, resistants, all kind of capacitors and a few potentiometers. Despites I used to make similar stuff many years ago, this one belongs to me colleague who created it in 1977. Around that time transistors were state of the art technology.
Personally I love to look at such print boards. They are very fascinating.

UPDATE: I submitted this image also for the theme Kitchen/Electric on Macroday.

TECH-INFO: because of lack of a macro lens I used my new Lensbaby Composer, together with a +4 pre-screw lens to magnify. Except for the more blurry edges it is hard to tell it is a Lensbaby, mainly due to the aperture of f/16.0.
To light I used two speedlight flashes (the strobist way). One in a shoot through umbrella at the right for directional light and another one pointed at a white ceiling for a very soft fill.
Shot one RAW file, processed it in DxO Optics Pro to create 2 exposures, made a HDR file using Photomatrix and tone mapped it. These steps were needed to create an image with lots of detail. Afterwards I ran it again through DxO to increase the contrasts slightly.

Very nice shot. Great use of DOF. I like your PP: it's very natural without constrainments. Well done Paul!
LightningPaul: Many thanks Giorgio. Most of time I try to get something looking pretty natural, great lighting and if possible to get a wow effect.

Ha! I knew this was an amp before I even read the description. Nice shot...good use of shallow depth of field and slightly muted colors. I went in a different direction for VFXY's theme, but now you make me think I should've gotten some photos of glowing tubes!
LightningPaul: Great you noticed those muted colors, after 30 years these components don't look so shiny anymore smile
I could have made an image of tubes but not in time for VFXY. A "production" copy of the main amplifier contains tubes, normally they should still work. One day I'll ask my colleague.
Your VFXY Technology submission is also pretty cool.
I like the variety of colours and shapes of the components here. My father used to buid them, as well as lamp radios.
LightningPaul: It always nice to find other fans of electronics smile
Seeing this reminded me of a dreadful old Benny Hill song called Transistor Radio, made in 1961. If you are brave enough to listen...

LightningPaul: I was brave enough and I survived smile As a kid I loved watching the hectic end-sketch of the Benny Hill Show.

I've got zilch for this current theme, and have planned my pictures for the week so likely give it a miss.

I remember, back in the dinosaur days, cataloguing "microprocessors"! Brings back memories.
LightningPaul: I mainly remember from the eighties how revolutionary those microprocessors were smile

Amazing... tech information’s! If a neophyte photographer read it, he will stop to take photo! The result was nice and beautiful. I need to learn more about lensbaby. Thank a lot.
LightningPaul: Many thanks for commenting. I also starting without knowing anything about post processing. But thanks to other blogs, experimenting, looking at photographs and reading other blogs, I learned a lot about it. Though I still have a long way to go. On the website of lensbaby you can find lots of info. Otherwise feel free to ask me anytime.
