One of the entrance gates of the cathedral Notre-Dame in Paris.
I needed an image for the VFXY theme Religion. There were very beautiful statues and monuments which would fit the theme perfectly. Because of the low light a tripod was necessary. Unfortunately I got problems with the security. So at the end I have to leave the cathedral without a good picture for the theme.
TECH-INFO: one RAW file which included a blue sky and the part you see above. I used DxO Optics Pro and Photomatrix to get a much of the details as possible. Especially in the almost black parts. In Photomatrix I set the "Light smoothing" at "Very Low" which mostly ends up in those very artistic cliche HDR images with lots of halos. But here it turns out to be great.

Great details again. The light smooting probably isn't noticable so much because the areas of high contrast are missing in there (wild guess)
LightningPaul: Probably you right regarding the missing high contrasts. The original image contained a huge dynamic range (blue sky, church in shadow, the inside part). I'll need to experiment more so I'll learn more about the tone mapping behavior.
What a wonderful piece of sculpture, I can't begin to imagine the work that went in to this. Its a shame about the silly tripod rules.
LightningPaul: It's indeed amazing to see what some people accomplished in the past.
About the tripod: that really sucks. It's hard to understand why. Did you have any similar experiences?
Nice shot with great details, nice hdr not overdone. Well done
LightningPaul: Thanks Ivar, I'm happy you like the HDR tone mapping result. I always try to balance between getting a very realistic image and dramatizing it a bit.
