11th of July Fireworks 2008 (2 of 2)

Fireworks at the 11th of July in Zeebrugge. It started at 23h00 and lasted for almost half an hour. This picture is made during the last minutes.

Last year they supposed to start at 23h00 but instead they started too early at 22h54. At that moment I was still searching for and setting up my equipment. At 23h00 sharp I was ready. Unfortunately a few minutes later the fireworks were over. So I made no good images.

UPDATE: also posted on JPG magazine for the theme Nighttime: http://www.jpgmag.com/photos/1025655

Very nice, beautiful shot.
Firework shots are never easy. This is a good one, I like all the street lighting that goes with it.
LightningPaul: Thanks. It's indeed not easy. After setting up shutterspeed and aperture, framing and timing is still a skill which can only be learned by lots of practice. Luckily my father used to make lots of images of fireworks (but using film instead of digital). So as a kid I saw many times how great fireworks can look like.

The port of Zeebrugge is great source of background light. I'll make and post more pictures using this nice lighting.

Feeling happiness of a victory or a revolution or a memorial of it, isn`t it?
LightningPaul: On the 11th July of 1302 the Flemish people have won a big battle against a French army. See here for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Golden_Spurs

The celebration is now purely symbolic and has little relevance with that battle. They have chosen this day because of the winning in 1302.

Personally, I feel as happy as any other day smile
